Our real estate lawyers and litigators unite and empower landlords, owners, occupiers, developers, investors and local authorities to manage, improve and future-proof retail property assets.
The successful performance of a retail asset requires your lawyers to work hand-in-hand with you to agree transactions swiftly and effectively, time after time — building strong relationships and taking the burden off your desk.
Our vast and longstanding work for both retail property owners (including private investment funds and public sector entities) and household-name retailers gives us insights into the priorities on both sides of a transaction. We use this perspective to identify potential sticking points early, propose practical solutions and keep matters moving.
Our team will work up strategies that put you first and place the commerciality of each transaction at the heart of our instructions. For owners, this means protecting income, maintaining occupation and positioning assets for long-term value. For occupiers, it’s about securing the right locations, opening stores on schedule and retaining the flexibility to adapt an estate as your business evolves.
We’re members of Revo and the Leisure Property Forum. Our team has been recognised by winning Law Firm of the Year at the Insider Property Awards North West 2026, Commercial Property Team of the Year at the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2026, Legal Team of the Year at the EG Awards 2024 and Legal/Professional Team of the Year for commercial property at the Property Awards 2023.
We’re also shortlisted for Professional Service Provider of the Year at The Revo’s 2026, which recognises professional services firms that make a measurable difference across the retail destination industry through strong client service, collaboration, innovation and social value.

Retail property requires legal advisers who understand income, occupation, customer experience and the role of an asset within its community.
We work with in-house legal teams, property directors, estates teams, asset managers, managing agents and project teams to deliver advice that’s both technically robust and commercially useful.
Our team provides:

We have the legal expertise and sector connections to support experts in placemaking at the forefront of helping developers to create and reshape town centres and high streets across the UK.
Bringing physical retail back into hearts and minds requires intimate knowledge of local communities to develop thriving destinations for a mix of uses — from residential, leisure, work and culture to education, entertainment and healthcare.
One major challenge to this is fragmented ownership, with high street units focused on their own commercial objectives rather than a collective, long-term vision.
As leaders in regeneration — working with the likes of Peel Waters on projects such as Liverpool Waters and Chatham Waters, as well as Eden Project Morecambe via Lancaster City Council — we specialise in getting deals done with pace, precision and purpose.
We’re recognised by The Legal 500 for our involvement in “some of the biggest and most complicated development deals in recent times”. Trust our team to provide the legal and commercial insights needed to break down barriers, accelerate progress and make places work.

Strand Shopping Centre
Acting for Sefton Borough Council in relation to the ongoing redevelopment of the Strand Shopping Centre, Bootle, including on the range of occupational interests, preparing a vacant possession strategy and working with a number of key stakeholders to carry this through successfully ahead of deadlines and well under budget. We’re also advising in relation to the construction documentation for the demolition and works phases of the project, drafting and negotiating various construction contracts including PCSAs, appointments, works contracts, professional appointments and collateral warranties. During the redevelopment we continue to support with asset management and ongoing leasing requirements.

Advising Wirral Borough Council on the asset management of two shopping Centres in Birkenhead — Middleton Grange and Pyramids. With approximately 100 tenants, we advise Wirral Borough Council and its asset managers in connection with the full spectrum of asset management matters which arise from the centres. They range from 1954 Act renewals (opposed and unopposed), the grant of new leases and licences, break notices, dilapidations claims, rent and service charge arrears recovery claims. We’re also advising on the medium- to long-term future of the assets as part of the wider generation of Birkenhead town centre.
Pavers Shoes
Advising longstanding client Pavers Shoes, including supporting new lettings at McArthurGlen York Designer Outlet and Cotswold Designer Outlet, alongside lease renewals and wider portfolio support.
Merrion Centre
Advising Town Centre Securities since 2008, supporting a range of landlord and tenant matters across its retail assets, including the Merrion Centre in Leeds.

We’re committed to helping shape the future of the retail destination sector. Our two Future of Retail: Risk & Resilience Conferences brought together over 150 senior leaders to explore the risks, opportunities and innovations influencing the sector.
Contributors included Google, Landsec, Retail Trust, American Golf, Dunelm and Next — creating a platform for meaningful discussion around the opportunities and challenges that are transforming retail destinations.
A key focus was Martyn's Law and its implications for retailers, landlords and destination owners. Working alongside keynote speaker Figen Murray OBE (whose campaigning led to the legislation), we wanted to raise awareness of the law and provide practical guidance to businesses preparing for implementation.
In addition, we’re proud to sponsor the Investment Deal of the Year category at the Revo’s 2026 to help recognise those who are driving the retail, leisure and placemaking sectors forwards.

As a certified B Corp, we’re committed to creating positive impact. Alongside supporting specific town centre regeneration projects in Wakefield and Bootle, we continue to invest in initiatives that create lasting environmental and social benefits. This includes community allotment partnerships and committing to becoming net zero by 2040 (ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement target). Our partnerships with The Counselling & Family Centre in Manchester and Grow Wakefield in Leeds are helping to create accessible green spaces, support wellbeing and strengthen local communities through both financial investment and colleague volunteering.
We also committed a further £66,000 to the Kingsdale Head peatland restoration project, building on our original investment to support the restoration of more than 400 hectares of internationally important peatland. Recognised within the UN Race to Zero Progress Report, the project now supports biodiversity, education and community engagement initiatives.
