Planning and Environmental

Our team delivers the knowledge, insight and action you need to complete developments within legal parameters.

Liability for complying with environmental and planning law is complex, far reaching and spans all sectors.

We are experts in this field and provide the technical advice you need on planning, environmental and highways law to execute property transactions in the most commercially effective way.

Our team is made up of experienced planning and environmental lawyers who work with colleagues in our Property Development and Construction teams, as well as our Corporate group, to complete transactions efficiently, collaboratively and successfully.

We support on various contentious and non-contentious issues, which range from negotiating complex highways and planning agreements, to representation in prosecutions, enforcement and other actions.

Issues we advise on span environmental permitting, remediation and environmental liability, assets of community value, lawful development certificates, listed buildings and community infrastructure levy. As well as waste management, statutory nuisance, contaminated land, environmental impact assessments, and providing strategic advice in respect of planning applications and appeals.

In addition, we provide specialist input into property acquisitions, disposals and share purchase agreements (including due diligence on corporate and property transactions), and can represent you in judicial reviews and other legal challenges or litigation arising from environmental harm.

We act for a range of clients from individuals and SMEs to large corporates and multinationals. This includes registered providers, banks, NHS trusts, property developers, governmental departments, and agricultural and landed estates.

We have been involved with significant commercial and residential projects across the UK concerning assets such as student accommodation, industrial developments, major housing schemes and canals and ports.

Why can’t a property litigator and a planning lawyer just enjoy a simple walk in the countryside

In their latest video, Property Litigation Partner Helena Davies and Planning Partner Sophie Stewart take a walk through the countryside while discussing some of the issues you need to be aware of as a land owner or property developer.
