Brabners ranked among the UK’s leading trade mark professionals

Friday 4 March 2022

We are delighted to have achieved Bronze ranking in the Enforcement and Litigation category of the prestigious World Trademark Review 1000 for 2022.

This is the first time Brabners have applied and therefore the first time we have been recognised by the WTR 1000, making this a significant milestone in the development of our Intellectual Property practice.

Our lawyers Colin Bell and Hannah Fawcett also both achieved Bronze status as individuals, for Enforcement and Litigation and Prosecution and Strategy respectively, while Colin was recommended for Transactions.

In making their judgement, the WTR described us as ‘one of the foremost IP practices in Northwest England’. The report went on to say that, ‘The group deals with trademark portfolio management, disputes, online brand protection programmes and licensing issues throughout the country, as well as on an international scale through close relationships with US firms. With solicitors and trademark attorneys working under the same roof, few issues are beyond its remit; and as most team members count IP as one of many legal specialisms, it can take into account every facet of a client’s commercial strategy and advise accordingly.’

Work highlights this year include advising rugby team Wigan Warriors on its rebrand and managing the trademark portfolio of Lancashire County Cricket Club. Colin Bell acted on both briefs, while Hannah Fawcett was at his side on the latter. Bell is a favourite among his collaborators, who comment: “He is trusted and thorough, and we especially appreciate that he attends to our work in a timely manner. On a personal level, he is a pleasure to work with. I feel he knows us well and reflects this in his work by anticipating our needs”. The reports on dual-qualified solicitor and trademark attorney Fawcett are equally effusive: “She is helpful, insightful and responsive, as well as proactive, always providing options alongside detailed risk analysis.”’

Colin Bell, Head of the Intellectual Property team, commented, “To achieve Bronze ranking in the World Trade Mark Review 1000 for the firm, and for two of our practitioners, at the first time of asking, is a huge achievement, and reflects the strength and depth of the team that we have built at Brabners.”
