Games & interactive entertainment

We’re a full-service provider of commercial and efficient legal advice to the games and interactive entertainment sector.

In testing and changing times, you need lawyers you can count on — those who speak your language and have a rich heritage in gaming and technology.

We’ve been there as the UK games sector has matured, acting for some of the most prominent development studios in the UK — including Rage Games, Bizarre Creations, Argonaut Software, Lucid Games, Jester Interactive, The Code Monkeys and Swordfish Studios — and in deals with major publishers like EA, Activision, Acclaim Entertainment, Disney, Lego, Microsoft, Sony, Sega and Nintendo.

From obtaining funding and working within financial constraints to the war for talent in developing, finding and retaining your best people — as well as addressing the legal issues associated with emerging technologies (such as blockchain and NFTs) — we understand the large-scale challenges you face.

We also help to address day-to-day concerns like protecting and exploiting your intellectual property rights (including copyright and trade marks), negotiating and entering into robust contracts and understanding where commercial risks might lie — all while complying with wider regulatory frameworks.

As your trusted legal partner, we take the time to get to know your business in-depth. Our commercial and pragmatic solutions will help to achieve your goals. We support many technology businesses throughout their entire journey from inception to exit (and beyond).

Our games team comprises lawyers with specific interest in working with businesses and other stakeholders across the games sector — and many of us are gamers ourselves. Andreas Petrou — a lawyer who specialises in commercial contracts and intellectual property (and a keen gamer since the early '90s) — leads the team. Key senior support comes from our managing partner Nik White, who has been acting for games companies for almost 30 years.

We appreciate how close-knit the UK games industry is. We support and are actively involved in a number of local initiatives, incubators and accelerators, business and angel networks and pro-bono activities. Our strong relations with networks of investors, service providers and technology hubs enable us to facilitate connections where beneficial to your business.
