In 2022, The Brabners Foundation granted £2,500 to The Mental Health Foundation — a UK charity whose mission is to help people thrive by understanding, protecting and sustaining their mental health.
One in five students at UK universities have a current mental health diagnosis. Poor mental health among students can lead to worry, loneliness, substance misuse and thoughts of self-harm.
Certain groups are impacted more than others, with 91% of LGBTQ+ students experiencing mental health challenges.
The money we donated to The Mental Health Foundation went towards its UOK? scheme. This aims to prepare students for the mental health challenges associated with going to university by delivering peer-led mental health workshops.
UOK? has supported over 1,800 students through psychoeducation and workshops at 11 education establishments across the country. Its participants now feel better equipped to look after their mental health and know where to go if they need advice.
