In 2021, The Brabners Foundation donated £2,000 to the Little Princess Trust — a UK charity that provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
According to Cancer Research UK, there are sadly around 1,838 new cases of children’s cancer each year in the UK. While many of these are rare and not well understood, the survival rate is high at 84%.
The Little Princess Trust gives hair and hope to hundreds of children and young people each year. Each of its real hair wigs cost the charity an average of £700, which covers the making, fitting and styling of the wig.
In 2020, the charity reached a significant milestone, providing its 10,000th wig. It’s now well on the way to 15,000. Yet alongside its provision of wigs, the Little Princess Trust is also one of the largest charity funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.
Since 2006, it has funded projects into many types of cancer (including neuroblastoma, leukaemia, brain tumours, Wilms' and rhabdomyosarcoma) and a variety of less toxic treatments (including immunotherapy, proton beam therapy and drug repurposing).
