Tom Smith - Litigation

Tom is a Partner in our Litigation team.

He is an experienced commercial litigator and handles a broad variety of business disputes including cases which involve shareholder and partnership claims as well as contractual disagreements. He acts for a wide range of clients including SMEs and professional services firms.

He also has a specialism in insolvency related work, advising both insolvency practitioners and the former directors of insolvent companies. He has a successful track record in bringing and defending claims on behalf of both of these parties in relation to the duties, conduct and antecedent transactions of directors.

Tom has years of experience in contentious work and is an expert in resolving commercial issues between companies and individuals who have interests in companies or partnerships. In addition, he has a strong track record of advising and representing family and owner managed businesses, regularly working with these clients on key issues including those around succession planning and reducing conflict in family enterprises.

Tom is a key member of our Sports Team and has a keen interest in resolving issues faced by our sport clients, a number of which he represents. His work with sports sector clients covers a wide range of issues, from contractual and business sale disputes, through to banking litigation, using his experience of the sector to achieve favourable, pragmatic and commercial outcomes.

He is a member of the Civil Litigation Section of the Law Society and is classed as a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ by The Legal 500.

Tom is a trustee of a charity which is designed to support the residents of his local village, Croston as well as a parent governor of his children’s school, Bishop Rawstorne C of E Academy.

Tom joined us in 2019 and is based in our Lancashire office.
