A legal director in our professional conduct team, Deepika has a strong background in professional regulation and has been practising for around 22 years.

Deepika acts for a range of professional clients facing misconduct investigations by their professional regulatory body or university course provider, including doctors, dentists, pharmacists, opticians, psychologists, solicitors, barristers, chiropractors, physiotherapists, social workers, medical experts and university students.

She is highly experienced in fitness to practise investigations and inquests around allegations of dishonesty, plagiarism, sexual misconduct, acting beyond scope of practice, crossing professional boundaries, fraud, gross negligence manslaughter, death/serious injury by dangerous driving, performance and health concerns.

Deepika advises professionals and organisations in whistle blowing, defamation and harassment cases, and assists professionals in criminal investigations and interviews under cautions.

She also represents organisations in inquests including private and public hospitals, GP practices and others relating to gross negligence manslaughter, suicides, failure to diagnose or offer appropriate/timely treatment, failure to carry out adequate risk assessments, failure to refer to mental health or safeguarding teams and systemic issues following inadequate policies and procedures.

Deepika provides legal advice to universities and student unions regarding counselling services and the sharing of confidential information, data protection breaches, and drugs policies.

She advises individuals and private and public organisations including NHS trusts, NHS England and Primary Care Practices in relation to relevant statutory frameworks concerning compliance, procedures and contractual issues.

She advises clients on issues such as applications for Registration or Restoration onto Professional Registers, Inquests, Performers’ List/PAG investigations, Maintaining High Professional Standards in the NHS, CQC, Ofsted, NHSE and Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman investigations and Appeals.

Deepika is also on the Sports Resolution Panel for SCMP (Safeguarding Case Management Programme) for safeguarding matters.

Deepika has written for major publications including Pulse Today, The Dentistry, Health Matters, Dental Review News, Optician, Primary Health Net and the Law Society Gazette.

Deepika joined Brabners in March 2023 and is based in our Leeds office, acting for privately funded and insurance-backed clients.
