Andrew Graham

Andy also acts in High Court employment-related actions including those that involve the prevention of industrial action, breaches of restrictive covenants and the protection of trade secrets and confidential information. 

He has a wealth of experience in advising employers on redundancy and TUPE situations along with the full range of associated HR issues, including negotiating and consulting with trade unions and elected representatives. 

Examples of his experience with large-scale TUPE projects include: 

• Large county council — ‘total facilities management’ outsourcing project.
• Major reorganisation — as part of a rescue package for a former nationalised industry resulting from a catastrophic accident at one of its major sites.
• Large leisure operator — leisure management contracts with various local authorities and bids for new work.
• Large shopping centre operator — on its sale.

A member of the Employment Lawyers Association, Andy was recognised with a Business Leader award for collaborating through change in relation to the Future Maritime Support Programme during a secondment with BAE Systems plc from 2020 to 2021. 

Having practised since 2008, Andy has worked with a range of industries including retail, finance and pharmaceuticals. He brings a common-sense approach to the advice he gives and ensures that it’s always tailored to his clients’ cultures

Andy has a successful track-record in contentious matters, including: 

• Complex disability discrimination claim — defending a large corporate in a complex disability discrimination claim in relation to measures imposed to on office- working in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. 
• Complex disability discrimination claim — defending a multinational pharmaceutical company in a complex disability discrimination claim in which whole life loss of earnings (running to seven figures) was claimed.
• Employment Appeal Tribunal — acting for Vaultex UK Limited in appealing to the Employment Appeal Tribunal.
• Negotiating a significant settlement — on behalf of two high profile CPOs in the retail and media sectors.
• TUPE group action — representing a large outsourcing company in a group action brought by 42 former employees claiming protective awards for alleged failure to inform and consult contrary to TUPE in respect of a service provision change. Modest commercial settlements were successfully negotiated in respect of all claimants.

Andy is heavily involved with Leeds Mind and uniquely positioned to manage absences caused by mental health issues and advise on wellbeing initiatives, having acted as a Trustee for the charity between 2016 and 2023

Andy played Terry Cooper in the film The Damned United, starring Michael Sheen — an unpassable opportunity for any Leeds United supporter.
