Matt is a Senior Associate in our Regulatory team.
Matt is a regulatory and business crime lawyer who handles issues such as major corporate and gross negligence manslaughter investigations, investigations and prosecutions by bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency, local authorities, CQC, HMRC and the police.
He has also worked on a major ongoing Public Inquiry and has advised many clients required to appear at Coroners’ inquests. He has a background as a former criminal defence lawyer as well as a Senior Crown Prosecutor and for a period worked as Crown Counsel in an overseas jurisdiction.
Matt has a strong background in all matters relating to business crime and regulatory law and is a Member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association (HSLA). In an edition of The Legal 500, it was noted that “Matthew Coles is client focussed. Never settles for just a solution but finds the best solution.”
Matt joined us in August 2021 and is based in our Manchester office.
