Steven Appleton - Private Client law

Steven leads our Manchester Private Client team.

Steven is a highly experienced private client lawyer who identifies the issues that matter to clients and helps them devise the solutions that meet their specific needs.

He specialises in personal planning for business owners and senior business executives and handles issues such as wills, trusts, tax planning, Lasting Powers of Attorney, probate and Court of Protection work. He acts for business owners, senior executives, high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals. 

He has also built a successful philanthropy advice practise which provides individuals and business owners with specialist guidance on how they can set and achieve their philanthropic goals.

Steven has a strong background in non-contentious matters and is experienced in devising the legal strategies clients need to protect their interests when faced with complex family arrangements.

He is a member of the Society of Trust Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the STEP Family Business Special Interest Group. He is the former chair of Manchester Law Society’s Private Client Committee and current chair of their Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.  

He is the co-founder and co-chair of The Philanthropy Network (which helps professionals promote altruistic projects among their clients) and a member of STEP’s Philanthropic Advisors Special Interest Group.

He is classed as a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ by The Legal 500 which notes that Steven is “a star. He is extremely personable and has a great client-facing style. His technical ability is also without question”. In a profile for Chambers, Steven was labelled "superb"  and "outstanding to deal with", being lauded for his "relentless attention to detail and timeliness".

Steven joined us in 2017 and chairs our LGBT+ Affinity Group. This is part of our Together Action Group initiative which is designed to shape our ongoing equality, diversity and inclusion strategy.
