Ian Mylrea

Ian is a Partner and leads our Pensions team.

Ian is an experienced lawyer who advises on all legal aspects of pensions, particularly defined benefit schemes, scheme benefit changes and the pensions aspects of corporate transactions for a variety of clients including pension providers, corporates and trustees.

He is an expert on the use of insurance contracts in relation to pension schemes and is experienced in drafting, reviewing and negotiating bulk annuity contracts on buy-ins and buy-outs.

He has extensive experience of helping distressed companies in relation to the management of their pension liabilities including compromise deals involving the Pension Protection Fund and The Pensions Regulator.

Ian also works for over 30 clients who participate in various public sector pension schemes including TPS and LGPS, which has helped establish us as a leading practice in these areas.

Ian is a full member of the Association of Pensions Lawyers and sits on Brabners’ advisory board.

He is classed as a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ by The Legal 500 which describes Ian as “very responsive”, “helpful” and “completely dedicated to his clients”. Ian is also ranked in Chambers which notes that he is “quick to respond, easy to understand and a subject matter expert”.

Ian’s clients include Panasonic, the Trustees of the Dunlop Pension Scheme, Riverside, and NCR (Scotland) Pension Plan Trustees.

Ian joined us in 2016 and is based in our Manchester office.
