RPs and homelessness during COVID-19

Tuesday 16 June 2020

We are continuing to support our Registered Provider clients and we are keeping them informed about latest developments in relation to COVID-19.  One aspect of our work has been in relation to the Government’s response to COVID-19 and rough sleeping.

By way of example, we have been working with Registered Providers and local authorities to explore options for providing accommodation for the homeless during this challenging time and we continue to assist with providing those helped off the streets during the pandemic with long term support and accommodation.

Typical arrangements are leases and management agreements.  We can help you decide which is best suited to the circumstances.  Considerations include the level of involvement required; rent levels; how the users are going to occupy the premises (be this tenancy agreement or licence); whether care access is required; and whether the users have capacity to enter into such an agreement.

The current crisis has seen some excellent practice in relation to partnership working between Registered Providers and local authorities, including reviewing allocations policies and bringing properties back into use, in order to support meeting the challenge of finding accommodation for all.

The National Housing Federation outlined in their response to the HCLG Committee Inquiry on COVID-19 that Registered Providers are in a strong position to assist with the next steps following the crisis.  If we can assist in any way, please do get in touch.
