Major Challenges for Registered Providers in a post-pandemic world

The last couple of years has presented challenges to all of us that we could not previously have anticipated. As part of our recent “Ask the Leaders” video series, we heard from four Chief Executives of Registered Providers talking about some of the challenges they have faced over the last couple of years and how they anticipate being able to overcome them.

The Chief Executives identified the following as some of the challenges their organisations are currently facing:

  • Increase of rent arrears during the COVID-19 pandemic for some Associations, but a fall in arrears for others. Either way, the level of customer support required increased during the pandemic.
  • The Green Agenda and, in particular, the unplanned investment required against a ticking clock.
  • Financial challenges associated with investment in current homes and ensuring current stock is adequately maintained.
  • Rising cost of development.
  • Shortage of labour and materials.
  • Inflation.
  • Claims management companies actively seeking out housing disrepair claims.
  • Maintaining good property records.

The key theme emerging from all Associations was the desire to work with customers as best they can to navigate these challenges, maintain and build good quality housing and maximise opportunities wherever possible.
