Planning

Planning

An understanding of planning policies and procedures is vital to the success of property development projects. Mistakes or avoidable delay can prove very costly. The planning legislation and the policy regime have gone through a number of fundamental changes in recent years. The UK planning system is more complex. The new Localism Act and the National Planning Policy Framework together with the emphasis on sustainable development all need to be handled carefully. Our planning teams approach is to devise a pro-active and practical approach to planning issues and to provide commercially robust solutions to planning and environmental issues relevant to development.

Our dedicated planning team has an unusual mixture of planning lawyers and a chartered town planner bringing a different perspective to planning issues.

Our planning team work closely with the property team which includes experienced solicitors and consultants able to identify and provide solutions to many different planning and property issues. The team has an extensive network of contacts from working both in the public and private sectors. It is important for clients to appreciate that early strategic planning advice on proposed developments can save a great deal of time and cost in the future. Such early strategic advice can often de-risk the planning process and seek to minimise prospects of a successful legal challenge.
