Cohabitation claims

Cohabitation claims

There is no single piece of law setting out what a cohabiting partner is financially entitled to if you are not married.

Financial and property claims can still be made even if a house is owned in one partner’s name so the law can be very confusing .

The extent of the interest in property may rest on the detailed information you are able to provide us with.

The financial claims can be substantial if there are dependent children.

The best option is to draw up a relationship agreement or declaration of trust at the start of the relationship. If you have not done so then you should make sure that you get early advice on the options and remedies available to you.
