Charity property matters

Charity property matters

Many charities have significant property interests. Village halls, community centres, housing charities, hospices, care homes and recreational charities for example will in the majority of cases own at least one piece of land from where their charitable activities are carried out and many not for profit organisations will also either own or rent office space for the administrative side of things.

Many charities also own property on an investment basis and in recent years high streets up and down the country have seen the number of charity shops increase significantly.

We can advise you on the legal requirements contained in the Charities Act 2011 that apply to a disposal of charity land as well as any particular requirements that might be attached to your charity’s land.

We can also offer advice upon proposals to enter into leases as well as advising upon the outright purchase of property.
