North West Housing Conference welcomes Director General of the Council of Mortgage Lenders

Wednesday 19th October 2016

As we prepare to welcome delegates to the North West Housing Conference next month, 4 November at the BT Convention centre in Liverpool, the issue of ownership hits headlines again for the future of the housing sector.

Shared ownership: ugly sister or Cinderella? Latest research from the Council of Mortgage Lenders has been published this week investigating the challenges and opportunities for the sector, and recommends practical steps to help this market develop.

The North West Housing Conference 2016 (NWHC) theme, Homes for All: Ownership vs. Rent reflects the economic and political future of the sector. Along with the key note talks, workshops and panel discussions on a broad range of tactical and strategic challenges for the sector, shared ownership will certainly be an important feature.

Joining us at this year’s conference is Director General of the Council of Mortgage lenders, Paul Smee, who commented on the latest research report:

This new independent research paints a positive picture of the current shared ownership market, and points up a number of productive recommendations for everyone involved to help its further development. We hope these will chime with the forthcoming Government white paper on housing, and we look forward to helping our members towards an operating environment that is favourable to shared ownership lending as a "fourth tenure" for the UK.”

Head of Housing and Regeneration here at Brabners, Alistair Fletcher said:

This year’s topic of ownership vs. rent is a critical one not just for the social housing sector but the nation as a whole. It is fantastic to be welcoming Director General of CML, Paul Smee, here to the North West Housing Conference to share insights and findings just as this key report is published
