Brabners swoops for talent as it targets growth

Brabners swoops for talent as it targets growth

Thursday 30th April 2015

Commercial law firm Brabners has hired two new partners adding expertise to its corporate, real estate and specialist energy teams as part of an ‘aggressive talent acquisition strategy’ to support its growth plans.

The two new hires are Mark Whiteside, who joins the firm’s corporate team from KPMG, and Claire Petricca-Riding, who has been appointed as Head of Planning and Environmental Law.

The firm has also reappointed corporate lawyer Mark Brandwood as managing partner for a third term. Brandwood has overseen sustained growth over his six-year tenure as managing partner, which most recently saw revenues rise by 4.5 per cent to £30.2m in 2014.

Mark Brandwood, Managing Partner of Brabners LLP, said: “We’ve achieved growth in a turbulent legal market through an absolute focus on delivering excellence in core commercial work. That focus remains and we’re aggressively pursuing the best talent to bolster the skills of our established teams.

“Mark’s tax expertise adds further weight to our renowned corporate practice, which has been the most consistently active legal team in the region’s M&A market over recent years, as well as bringing specialist VAT and real estate tax capabilities to the firm. Claire’s 13 years’ of experience will complement both our property team and our specialist renewable energy practice, which acts for developers, investors and operators in a growing sector of the regional and national economy.

“In my third term as managing partner I’m looking forward to driving forward our plans to significantly grow revenues over the medium term. Hiring and developing the best talent is a fundamental part of that plan.”

Mark Whiteside specialises in advising on the tax and VAT implications of corporate, commercial and real estate transactions. Prior to joining KPMG he spent ten years at Eversheds. Claire Petricca-Riding joins Brabners from Aaron and Partners and her expertise covers complex planning and environmental cases including waste management and renewable energy.

The new hires bring the firm’s ranks to 66 partners and more than 350 staff.
