Brabners expands into active dental market

Brabners expands into active dental market

Wednesday 20th July 2016

Commercial law firm Brabners has expanded its healthcare practice with the appointment of senior associate, Nicola Lomas, to capitalise on the high levels of commercial activity in the dental market.

Nicola, who has more than 10 years’ experience advising a national client base, from sole practitioners to large multi-site corporates, has been recruited from Goodman Grant, where she held the role of director.

The firm says its latest appointment comes from demand for tailored legal services from both NHS and private practice dentists, which has increased due to continued strong signs of growth within the dental industry, particularly in areas such as cosmetic dentistry.

Commenting on her new role, Nicola said: “Deal activity remains high across the dental sector and in recent months we have seen demand increase. Not only is this being driven by younger practitioners with a desire to own their own company, with hundreds registering an interest in each practice that comes to market, but we’re continuing to see larger dental groups, often those backed by private equity, seeking to increase their portfolios. As a result, demand is outstripping supply and the goodwill value of practices is rising.

“Areas such as cosmetic dentistry are also opening up new revenue streams, which has led to a number of larger businesses that offer both NHS and private dental care reviewing their options for further growth and expanding the services they provide. Despite this being a niche area of the healthcare sector, it’s extremely active and there’s a clear demand for legal services as businesses expand and consolidate their operations.”

A corporate lawyer, Nicola specialises in the buying and selling of dental practices, incorporations, expense sharing and partnership agreements, and associate contracts.

Richard Hough, head of healthcare at Brabners, added: “We offer a range of legal services tailored to the healthcare sector and Nicola’s impressive understanding of the challenges facing the dental profession, alongside her unrivalled expertise in this area, ensures we’re well-placed to support our dental sector clients.

“Moving forward, dentistry will be a key area for the healthcare sector at Brabners and I’m looking forward to working closely with Nicola as we expand our service offering and build the team further.”

Brabners has a nationally recognised team of healthcare solicitors, some of whom have practical experience of working within the NHS and in private practice as healthcare professionals. The sector, which encompasses specialists in corporate, employment and property law, enables the firm to offer a complete healthcare law service to its clients.
